The purpose of this module is to assist participants in preparing for the national certification examination through an on-line group discussion of practice questions. The questions are multiple choice and vignette-based. This module takes a collaborative approach to applying clinical reasoning skills in addressing the practice questions. Participants will also have an opportunity to write an online practice exam at the beginning of the module. Group members "meet" on-line for two hours once a week with a registered occupational therapist. This module is only offered on-line in real time.
In 2012, the Exam Preparation Module will be offered:
May 23 – June 27 AND September 19 – October 24

Core Curriculum Module
The Core Curriculum Module is designed for participants who may be in any stage of their transition to Canadian practice; however they recognize that they have gaps in their understanding of occupational therapy practice and require assistance in the form of interactive face-to-face or on-line classes and assignments.

For participants who are unable to join the class in real time, the sessions are recorded and archived, and can be viewed at the participant’s convenience. This is an intense study experience where participants are expected to complete readings in preparation for two 3 hour classes each week. Participants are required to complete and successfully pass (60% minimum grade) six assignments as indicated on the curriculum outline. This is the only module that enables participants to engage in an eight-week practicum experience including supervision by a registered occupational therapist. Participants who complete the entire curriculum are awarded an undergraduate certificate from McMaster University.
Note:
1. Participants in Ontario may have their class and practicum hours recognized by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) and counted towards required re-entry hours.
2. Face-to-face classes are available for this module at McMaster University and in French at the University of Ottawa.
In 2012, the Core Curriculum Module will be offered:
January 10 – July 3

IEOTs and mentors will begin by working individually through a guided reflective process to examine the strengths and attributes each brings to the partnership. IEOTs and mentors will then "meet" on-line and follow-up with the module coordinator regarding their preferred mentorship matches. On-line sessions are recorded and archived for participants who are unable to join the class in real time. A reflective workbook will be used to foster dialogue and to encourage mutual evaluation of the efficacy of the relationship. One final session will occur a few months later to close the module although mentoring relationships may continue if both mentor and mentee wish.
In 2011-2013, the Mentorship Module will be offered:
November 7, 14, 21, 2011 & March 26, 2012
May 7, 14, 28, 2012 & August 13, 2012
October 15, 22, 29, 2012 & February 25, 2013
